Episode 26: Mysfits Music Night with Mysty
This week on The Small Business Voice, Jeanette and guest co-host Justin Duncan sit down with two of the youngest entrepreneurs to ever join the show: 16-year-old singer Mysty (of Manteca High School) and her friend and collaborator Miles (of Sierra High School), a trained pianist, vocalist, and self-described "logistics guy." The two met through a mutual friend for a recording session and quickly realized they worked well together — and that partnership is now powering Mysfits Music Night, a music festival built entirely for and by teen performers.
Frustrated by how hard it was to book gigs as a young artist, Mysty pitched the idea to her dad at 1 a.m. after a Memorial Day festival performance left her craving more stage time. From there, she booked the FESM Portuguese Hall in Manteca (240 North Main Street) and brought Miles on board to handle the behind-the-scenes work — vendors, security coordination with Manteca PD, and community contacts built through years in the local music scene.
The event, happening October 7th from 6–10 p.m., kicks off with a networking hour for young musicians to meet sound engineers, lighting techs, and music teachers before the show. Performers include Mysty (pop, EDM, R&B), Cicely, and group duo Clave Alianza — all under age 20. Food and drink vendors include The Dirty Cup, Quickly, and a pizza truck from Misty's dad's restaurant, Pizza Twist. Tickets and vendor info are available via Instagram and TikTok.
Jeanette also shares a quick reminder for anyone hosting an event: short-term event insurance (as low as $150/day through her Allstate agency) can cover halls, HOA clubhouses, and private venues — often bookable up to two days before the event.
